Hi, Thanks for visiting mindbeingwellness.com.
Initially beginning as a mental health and lifestyle blog, Mind-Being Wellness (MBW) grew into speaking engagements and community advocacy endeavors. It’s now the mental/holistic health branch of Writes & Kulcha magazine and Tsansai Creative Services consultancy.
Cultural equity journalist and polymath Tameka A. Coley, popularly known as Tami Tsansai, is the primary force behind MBW. She was a founding member and director of the Jamaica Mental Health Advocacy Network, and she has 13 years of experience as a mental health activist in Jamaica and the Caribbean/Diaspora. So much so, Pitch Magazine (UK) awarded her the 2023 Mental Health Maverick of Jamaica in recognition of her various contributions to the sector.
MBW aims to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and support individuals in becoming well through writing and creative expression, workshops, events, and mental health-focused day trips. We’ve been working toward this goal for over 10 years through a variety of programs like Word, Sound, Healing: Fi Di Man Dem, the ItsOkayJa mental health support group (2016-2022), and the ItsOkayJA Thrift Shoppe, which funded it.
Please be patient while we rebuild our site. In the meantime, here are some ways to assist us/our work in wellness and culture:
- Buy Tami’s book (it’s an unconventional, coming-of-age autobiography that speaks to my mental health journey, among other things)– Hard Gal Fi Dead: Musings, Poems, Notes to Self
- Listen to her (limited series) podcast if you haven’t done so yet by clicking on the name of the platform you use — Spotify, Apple Podcasts and, for Android users, you can either use The Podcast App, or search for M.A.D. Gyal Musings on Google Podcasts or the Podcast Republic app.
